Florence Electric recently completed five (5) CVEC (Cape &Vineyard Electric Cooperative) solar projects for the EPC contractor, American Capital Energy (ACE). All combined, the crew installed nine megawatts of PV in the towns of Eastham and Harwich on Cape Cod, as well as, the towns of Edgartown and Tisbury on Martha’s Vineyard.
Florence Electric managed the five projects concurrently, employing approximately 100 electricians at the peak of construction. During one of the most grueling winters on Cape Cod , the biggest challenge was getting to the Island. Everything from manpower to materials had to be coordinated and was shipped over on the ferry.
Three of the five projects were built on landfills which presented their own challenges that included: no digging, steep slopes, and careful attention to avoid puncturing the “cap.” Since the field crews were not able to dig due to the landfill, cable tray was used for the wire management. Over 2.3 miles of cable tray and 10 miles of wire was installed at the landfill sites.
